Umkehrwalze D
Abwehr Enigmas had rotors with multiple notches and different wiring
The Luftwaffe also used the Enigma Uhr
Notes
(1) Standard alphabet is on the rotor's right-hand side, permutation
alphabet is on the left.
(2) Notch column gives the position on the alphabet ring.
(3) Window column gives the letter which appears in the window when the notch
is engaged. Note that the letters which appear in the window for rotors I, II,
III, IV and V are Q, E, V, J and Z respectively, which are alphabetically immediately
before R, F, W, K and A respectively, remembered at Bletchley Park by the mnemonic
Royal Flags Wave Kings Above. The reason they are alphabetically displaced by
one letter is that when the Enigma's key is pressed the rotors step and then
the glow lamp lights.
(4) Turnover column gives the letter which appears in the window after the turnover
has occurred.
(5) Alphabet on Umkehrwalzes are going clockwise viewed from the contact pad
side.
